Dr. Buie treats the underlying medical symptoms that many experts think are just autism behaviors. For instance, if a child on the spectrum is self-injurious, generally a psychiatrist may prescribe anti-psychotic medication. Dr. Buie believes that self injury is a non verbal or limited verbal child dealing with pain and looks at possible underlying acid reflux or other gastroenterology malady. When he treats the underlying issue the behavior usually ends.
