This presentation aims to provide an overview of learning disabilities, focusing on their definitions, key characteristics, and how they manifest in various educational and life settings. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities, explore common misconceptions, and learn about effective strategies for support and intervention. Ideal for anyone interested in fostering an inclusive environment for all learners.
This month’s session will feature:
Dr. Kiriko Takahashi, Interim Director, Center on Disability Studies (CDS), University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She is a learning disabilities specialist with over 20 years of experience working with children and adults across the lifespan. Her research interests are diverse and includes topics on transition of students with disabilities in the STEM pipeline, culturally responsive curriculum and teaching, inclusive education, Universal Design for Learning, and use of assistive technology. She is also the Director of the Pacific Basin University Center for Excellence and supports communities across the Pacific region.
