SUMMARY:Children & Youth Summit
DESCRIPTION:The Children and Youth Summit is an annual event that brings together about 200 youth for a day at the Capitol each October. Participants identify the key issues that they believe the Hawaii State Legislature needs to address to make Hawaii a better place to live\, learn\, and work. \nIn 2018\, top priorities selected by the youth included sustainable resources and eliminating coral bleaching\, policies to reform sexual education in Hawaii’s public-school system and protective state policies to guard women’s rights\, mental health and suicide prevention\, creating programs and support (e.g. community gardens\, workshops\, bus pass availability\, etc.)\, and college readiness and scholarship/financial aid guidance. \nTo maximize opportunities for youth participation\, adults are welcome only if accompanied by youth. Registration will start at 8:30 a.m. and the event will start at 9 a.m. \nThere are a limited number of travel scholarship for youth and their advisors from neighbor islands.  There is a place on the registration page to request for the travel scholarship. \nContinental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please bring a refillable water bottle so we can save environmental resources. Please also bring a jacket because the Capitol can be chilly. \nWe look forward to seeing you! \nPlease Register at  https://hcys2019.eventbrite.com \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Kierra Thompson(Kierra@hysn.org)
