New Preschool Funding for Charter Schools

Great news! Hawaii’s Public Charter School Commission, with support from the Office of Early Learning and community organizations, applied for and won nearly $15 million in preschool program funding for Hawaii’s keiki. The money will be spread over a four year period with $2 million spent the first year establishing four preschool classrooms at four charter schools on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Eventually the funds will help create 18 preschool classrooms serving a total of 920 children over the course of the grant.

One of the strengths of the grant application is that these new classrooms will expand opportunities for preschool children with disabilities. Each preschool classroom is targeting at least two openings for students with disabilities.
